Swing your way across the dance floor at your prom or other formal event with this 1950s Brenda swing dress from Unique Vintage. This ladylike black cotton dress features a classic 1950s-style swing shape with a slim, cinched waist, boat neckline and dramatically flared swing skirt with layers of lace peeking out from underneath. Its perfectly tailored construction creates an hourglass shape that will flatter any figure and turn you into a true vintage bombshell. Slight scalloped edges across the neck give the otherwise simple dress a bit of eye-catching detail, and it although the neckline is fairly modest in the front, it dips slightly into a V-shape in the back to show just a slight peek of skin. Because it’s made of 97% cotton, the Brenda scallop dress is comfortable enough to wear all year round.

The dress is perfect in every way! I got the xs size and fit exactly as it should. The dress hits me about half way down the calf with the petticoat. The material is very soft and smooth and the dress is very well made.

This is my "little black dress." Hands down, this is probably my favorite item in my closet! I also have the red version of this dress, and I love them both!! I've worn the black dress to church picnics with UV's red chiffon crinoline, and I got SO many compliments from everyone. I also wore it for my family's Christmas photos, and to square dances. I bought the medium since it was the closest to my measurements, and it fits as if it were tailor-made for me! The skirt is spacious and great to twirl, and the material feels thick, but the dress doesn't feel heavy at all! LOVE this dress!

As another reviewer wrote, it does not sit off the shoulder as shown in the photo but rather directly on it. This was fine with me as at least I can wear a normal bra with it. The bust was the right size, but there were side darts that needed to be brought in with alterations - since the dress is not lined it was a quick and cheap fix. The rest of the dress fits wonderfully and I look forward to spinning around the dance floor at my event! I got it with the crinoline and it adds the best sounding rustle and just a little bit of oomph, but the dress itself has its own body so you can do without if need be.

I'm going to have to take it to a seamstress. I bought a lovely red tea-length petticoat to go under this darling little number, but the dress is about a foot too long. I'm 5'5" and it hits me just above the ankles, not below the knee as the photos would have you believe. Aside from being vertically challenged this dress fits wonderfully. A petticoat is a must! The material feels wonderful. I can't wait until it's ready for a night on the town.

First off, I ordered this according to my hip measurements, it was entirely too large up top, and I had to take it to a seamstress. I was also disappointed that the straps sit more on top of the shoulder, and not as off shoulder as the picture shows. My seamstress could not alter it that much. On top of that, she said one dart was a half inch lower than the other, so that created some issues with fit. The scallop does not lay flat, but puckers oddly. I didn't have her fix this as the dress was already $42 to get taken in at the sides, and I paid $125 for it, so it ended up being a $160 gown. It does not lay nicely without the crinoline. There is too much fabric so it looks really bulky, so I suggest you buy a crinoline to go with it. With all that, it's very heavy duty fabric. But it's just plain cotton, doesn't have any nice sheen to it. So, while it's cute, I also am really disappointed in this dress because it's not quite as pictured.
