The Week in Fab or Drab: December 2-6

Welcome back, darlings! And happy holiday season! We’re breaking out our faux fur hats and going over our gloves inventory as we speak! The dames of Hollywood are breaking out their winter clothes and you all had a week’s worth of opinions to share. Let’s dive in, shall we?

Kate Middelton-Cambridge

katemiddelton

Our favorite royal appeared after a lengthy absence to show off her divine outerwear to us, isn’t that nice? The Duchess was spotted in this aviary coat dress and we positively swooned. Let’s see what you gals thought:

Terese Roberts: “Gosh, I love her”

Kierra Matthews: “As always, fab! So classy!!”

Elizabeth Bonnet: “ I really do not think that she could be drab. Maybe when she wakes up.”

Christina Hendricks

christinahednricks

Our favorite buxom beauty arrived last week in all her tartan glory and we applauded the dame.  We love a fabulous plaid this time of year and our patron saint, Ms. Christina, is showing us how it’s done. Opinions, gals! Go!

Emmalyne Braswell: “Whoever the designer may be who created a button-down to fit her ample bust be praised! Absolutely gorgeous.”

Liz Minset: “That is such a great dress. Totally FAB”

Mary K. Hoover: “It is cute but not as curve flattering for her awesome figure!”

Jennifer Lawrence

jenniferlawrence

Our very own girl-on-fire was spotted giving us a little coat envy this week. Ms. Lawrence was giving us all the in’s and out’s of winter dressing and she did it all in a retro, 50s camel-colored coat. Nothing but praises, darlings. Thoughts?

Elizabeth Bonnet: “I love her hair. I think that she is an amazing person too. She seems like she is always looking happy.”

April McCool: “ Love her and love the coat. I’m generally not a fan of the pixie cut, but she rocks it, although I like her with dark hair better.”

Sarah Schroeder: “A pop of color would be nice but its overall classy and elegant.”

Taylor Swift

taylorswift

We wrapped up the week with a splash of old Hollywood glamour, dames! And Ms. Taylor Swift was able to provide some serious frock-wearing. The starlet was spotted with a divine hair and makeup regime, paired with an almost too-stunning gown! The young dame does us proud on a weekly basis. Hit it, gals!

Carol Spears: “Glamorous”

Danika Bass: “Love the dress, but she is getting way too skinny!”

Larry Thompson: “One classy young lady.”

Well there you have it, dames! Another week and we’ve filled our purses with your opinions.  Make sure to join us daily on Facebook as we praise, or berate, the lady-stars of today! And join us every Monday for a fabulous little recap- here on the UV Blog!

Cheers,

Welcome back, darlings! Did you miss us? We’ve applied our last layer of eyeliner and have hoisted our girdles on for another fabulous week! It was a shorter week last week. but you dames managed to cram 5 days of opinions into 4. That’s why you’re divine. Let’s begin, shall we?

Dita Von Teese

ditavonteese

How’s that for a week starter? Miss Dita was spotted at the Melbourne Cup last week in this FABULOUS ensemble- complete with her signature Phillip Treacy hat! The cup is a little something like Derby Day here in the states and the divine Von Teese really did bring it. Let’s see what you thought:

Natalie Portman

natalieportman

Ms. Portman arrived early in the week with a full gala-skirt and a chic little Hepburn-style top. Both nifty & fifties, gals! We particularly love the shape of the skirt paired with such a simple, albeit classic, top! However, that metallic fabric may be a little too space age for such a petite gal. Let’s see what you had to say, dames:

The Week In Fab or Drab: Oct 14-18

Why hello, darlings! Did you miss us? We were gone last week attending a makeup and hosiery application seminar, but we are back this week for your weekly recap of all things fab and all things drab! Let’s jump right in!

Lucy Liu

lucy+liu

Our favorite of Charlie’s Angels, Ms. Liu was spotted in this stunning little number- complete with a cheeky little stripe contrast! We ask this every time we see Lucy: where has she been hiding!? While we asses her hair, let’s see what you dames had to say.

Brad Davis: “Try watching Elementary. An awesome show and cast. I love Lucy..”

Ellen Lee: “She’s been busy being Miss Watson. “

Kerry Washington

kerry+washington

Wave politely to Ms. Kerry, gals! She put on dots just for your viewing pleasure. The “Scandal” star was “spotted” in this little number, complete with a ladylike neckline and fully gathered skirt. Retro, simple and fabulous. Let’s hear some opinions, gals!

Yvette Chavez: “So much better than the other one she wore the other day.”

Charlene Green: “FAB. I would have picked a more retro hairstyle however.”

Michelle Rojas: “Yes to that dress. And bigger yes to those SHOES!!”

Sandra Bullock

sandra+bullock

Well look at Ms. Sandy! The star of “Gravity” was giving Ginger Roger’s legs a run for their money in this little lace number, wasn’t she! The 1960′s brought us the mini-skirt and Ms. Bullock was glad to remind us of that.  Also, everyone should be required to wear those shoes and that shade of lipstick once in their life. Hit it, gals!

Leslie Dangan: “100% FAB!!!”

Joann DeLuca: “WOW WEE”

Laurel Hayward: “Too short. I know she has great legs and all, just too short for my taste on someone over 35. I guess I am a prude!”

Olivia Wilde

 olivia+wilde

Ms. Wilde arrived later in the week to tell us all about the wonder of pants, gals! Olivia was giving us some major 1940s fashion- complete with a crisp white blouse, khaki pants and STUNNING hair! We wholeheartedly approve this message. Thoughts?

Dianne Ayers: “Gorgeous!”

Leslie Dengan: “I’m with April McCool, they need to be hemmed. So they go straight to the ground w/o bunching. (or looking like a tripping hazard. Hehe) Don’t get me wrong- I love her look here, and it’s FABULOUS!”

Laura Beth Yates: “ I love these pants! Can you make them in Black, Red, and Taupe? Come on Unique Vintage, darlings! Don’t let me down here!”

Diana Agron

diana+agron

Ms. Agron closed out the week with this fabulous 1930s floral frock! A stunningly stark black & white print, complete in a retro, bias style cut! Again, we have to make a case for more fabulous hair. A can of hairspray would have been the cure here, gals! Opinions! Let’s have ‘em!

Gretchen Kelly: “I don’t know if I like it in floor length. Short or angled maybe.. Even ankle length would have been nicer”

Dianne Ayers: “Yes, she needs black gloves as well!”

Well there you have it, dames! Make sure to join us next Monday as we recap yet another week of fab or drab!

Jacqueline Kennedy Goes To India

enhanced-buzz-2080-1378924381-6

We’re taking a little trip back, gals! Grab your pearls and pillboxes, because the divine Jackie is here to take us all on a much needed vacation!

enhanced-buzz-1398-1378924589-5

In March of 1962, the first lady embarked to Indian on a tour of goodwill in order to improve relations between our two nations; and she did it all in heels! Note the mid-arm length gloves, matching heels and multi-strand pearl necklace- all staples of both the first lady and American fashion at the time.

enhanced-buzz-19928-1378924555-50

Pictured here meeting with Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Jacqueline served as not only an goodwill ambassador to the President, but to the nation as well. She is the epitome of early 60s fashion here- complete with a matching dress and hat, as well as her pearls. The stark contrast between the two cultures was apparent upon her arrival, but Jackie made a point to reflect both her respect and admiration for the Indian culture through dress.

enhanced-buzz-1575-1378924407-12

While visiting New Dehli, Jacqueline is spotted in a knee length coat and dress ensemble, while sporting a matching wide brimmed hat of the period, as well as matching white accessories. A hat and pair of matching gloves have become something of a signature, and we constantly encourage anyone to “Jacqueline Kennedy” any outfit.

enhanced-buzz-1900-1378923406-0

While attending a reception in her honor as the U.S. Embassy in New Dehli, the first last opts for an early 60s formal satin trapeze style coat and matching dress. A structured, bouffant style up-d0 was just becoming popular within American fashion and many think that Jackie may have been responsible for the shift in hairstyles in the early 1960s.

enhanced-buzz-3903-1378924043-0

Pictured in from the Taj Mahal, Jackie worked closely with her personal designer Oleg Cassini to create a variety of lightweight dresses that reflected the culture and color of India. Many of the prints the first lady sported on this adventure were, at the time, considered too ethnic or loud for 1960s America. It wasn’t until years later did such bold prints begin to define 60s fashion.

enhanced-buzz-31898-1378924949-1

Pictured in a vibrant pink floral print, the first lady participates in both local custom and dress. The Rajasthani mark on her forehead is symbol of luck and respect. Note the coordinated headband, gals. Someone find us that immediately!

enhanced-buzz-4555-1378927187-9

And in her most famous look from the trip, a coral colored duchess satin dress became an international symbol of the first lady’s trip to a foreign sovereignty. So much so that it even became a collectible doll commemorating Jackie!

So what have we learned, darlings? That matching one’s wardrobe to one’s vacation is more important than you think.  Take a peek below at a few hand-picked pieces for our lady-like dream trip to India and we’ll book the plane tickets!
