  • We’re Seeing Spots!

From runways to the real world, the trend of mixing prints has taken another level. As a lover of all things printed, you can imagine my excitement when it became “on trend” to mix my favorites! The key to a successful print mixture is making sure that the color scheme is cohesive. In other words, both prints should have a common color throughout. This way your outfit doesn't look like you just rolled out of bed and got dressed in the dark. Another way to hit the mark with pattern mixing is keeping your prints super subtle, like a pinstripe or a polka dot. I have always had an obsession with Disney, Minnie Mouse in particular.

Polka dots, whether they be large or teeny tiny, make a fabulous fashion statement. They are an easy way to bring a feminine touch to even the simplest outfit. During the fall runways of the Gucci, Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs, these babies were everywhere!

(Lanvin, Stella McCartney, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana)

There are many ways to incorporate this sassy retro print into your everyday wardrobe. Whether it be a fun and flirty dress, a retro-style bathing suit, or even your accessories! Never underestimate the power of a polka dot! Here are some favorites:

    Now go get spotty!!

  • The Domestic Fashionistas of the Fifties

Looking back at American history, the 1950s were a period of domesticity. The man went to work and the wife took care of the household chores; cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children. This domestic life was often perceived of as "perfect" and actually molded the fashions during this era (the perfectly cinched waists and the appropriate knee-length hems).

What gave these styles a sense of whimsy were the exuberant excess of florals, crinolines and lady-like qualities that fashions from years past had actually been starving for.

During this time, women were at their most beautiful and image was everything. The 1950's woman was put together at all hours of the day; from matching accessories to perfectly poised pumps.

In the '50s, women felt a sense of security within the domestic life they created and their clothes reflected that.

The 1950's created some of the most iconized silhouettes in fashion history. It's no wonder so many fashion designers today are constantly paying reference to these beautiful, perfectly pulled together, domestic fashions of the past.

  • Fashions from The Help

When I saw The Help, I figured I would laugh, cry and want to go home and read the book A.S.A.P. What I did not expect was the sudden urge to hit the mall with a new silhouette in mind! This movie is beautifully created, with Emma Stone at the center giving, in my opinion, one of her strongest performances to date. The message is adequately portrayed by this stellar cast of mostly women. But the fashions in this film were an unexpected gift that I just can’t get enough of!

Every type of womanly shape was shown in this movie, from the classic a-line styles to the slim pencil skirt that keeps everything in just the right place.

To quench your own retro fashion desires, here are some of our favorite '50s style dresses, that are sure to give you that timeless feel:
