From The Studio, Part 2
February 1, 2012 by Stan | Celebrity FashionThe hardest part of constructing a garment is the looks you get from your roommates when you pass up a night of football and beer to drape a bodice.
The pattern work on the garment is really the backbone to this whole dog and pony show. The pieces, like that of an intricate puzzle, come together to create a single, completed piece.
This week, I’m working on a piece for UV that is incorporating a little bit of lovely lace in our collection. A simple pencil skirted dress with a draped peplum, and a fitted bodice. The neckline however is proving to be the problem on this one.
Working with a scallop on the edge of lace can either be your best friend or a complete nightmare. The end effect, of course, is stunning, but it’s all about placement. The neckline in question begs the question: can you be sexy without being revealing?
Next week, we will be looking at fabrics for this piece. We’re dreaming of lace and something in a lightweight camel…
