I miss the 90’s. As a child of an era that served up some of the strangest moments in fashion and culture, I can honestly say that 90’s had a certain type of flair incomparable to the ambiguous 00’s. Having finally gotten over the hump of a first decade, the 90’s are now a up for full discussion, and are perhaps even making a little bit of a comeback.
Madonna once said, “I’m not sorry, it’s human nature.” This could have been the tagline for an entire decade. From it’s minimal aesthetic to its blatant disregard for child safety (Nerf guns are built to destroy faces), the 90’s ushered in an era of individuality that we will not see for a long time to come.
From carefree political attitudes, Starbucks and the rise and fall of Nirvana, it was a truly something unique. Every week, I am going to examine a decade that not only defined me as an adult, but also defined popular culture as we know it.
