I don’t know if it’s the matching dresses or the harmonies, but next to the invention of the conventional oven, girl groups were really the highlight of mid century culture. From their sentimental messages about love and devotion to their expressed desire to do the loco-motion, their songs have managed to be a major part of my music library for years now. The doo-wop sensibilities that I find ever so appealing are only heightened by the external message the songs were trying to convey at the time. Before artists were elbow deep in their own trite self-promoting anthems of today, the songs of yesteryear were more in-tune with its listener. Girl groups defined an era with love songs so poignant, you can’t help but adore them everyday; even tomorrow.
