There are a few things I require each year to get myself into the Christmas spirit. After a full day of drinking hot toddies, a moisturizing regime and a velvet smoking jacket, I find myself yearning for one thing and one thing only: Judy.
In 1963, Judy Garland took it upon herself to put a little fabulous back into the houses of Americans everywhere. In proper Judy fashion, she put on her best face and sang until the kids around her couldn’t take it anymore. She invited Mel Torme over for scotch and caroling, as well as a young Liza Minnelli; who spent all evening gleaming in her mother’s statuesque shadow.
From beginning to end, the Judy Garland Christmas Special has earned its spot in popular culture’s handbook for all things Christmas. For your viewing pleasure, a fellow Garland enthusiast has uploaded a six part video series of the full Christmas Special.
So grab a drink, put on your bedazzled housecoat and get three sheets to the wind; it’s Christmas! Hit it, Judy.
