This past weekend, I found myself on the corner of chic and fabulous at Gen Art’s annual “Fresh Faces In Fashion” show and reception. Having had a bit of a turbulent past, it was nice to see that Gen Art was back to its usual self, with a new, tougher skin.
The night’s festivities included six collections from emerging designers, as well as a handful of emerging jewelry/accessory designers. In what appeared to be an attempt at range, Gen Art curated the show with designers from all walks of the industry. And while there were a few who got lost in the trendy middle, there was one collection in particular that I felt kept under the radar:
Dear Creatures, an L.A-based duo design team, showcased a collection of looks that yearned for a yacht and a glass of bubbly. Being self-described as a “lifestyle brand,” the show consisted of nautical, resort type looks that effortlessly glided down the runway as though they were walking on the sandy beaches of St. Tropez. Having hit a nerve in the vintage market, the collection was made complete with girlish details such as bows and high collars, to innocent colors and cuts to bring out that inner ingénue.
