Ever since we first came across retro fashion designer Kenley Collins when she made her reality television debut on Project Runway back in 2008, we knew we had to work with this quirky, colorful chic. There are few contestants from all the seasons of Project Runway that truly left any lasting impression on audiences and Kenley is definitely one of them. Thankfully, the feelings were mutual!

With her cute, sassy attitude and definitive fashion aesthetic, Kenley came to UV’s HQ last September to collaborate on an exclusive design just for us! The Brooklyn, NY native just happened to be in LA for the Emmys (if you’re a fan of the show, you’ll remember when Ven won the Emmy dress challenge with Kenley and they both got to attend the award ceremony? It was right around then).

Within minutes, it was evident we were all on the same page with what we were envisioning for our collaboration. Instead of a typical swing dress, we agreed on an adorable two piece crop top and matching swing skirt. And since Kenley is synonymous with bright, bold flowers, we went with a vibrant watercolor floral of turquoise, purple and yellow. The crop top is reminiscent of a halter top, has a sweetheart neckline and zips in the back. The swing skirt sits at waist and has a back zipper and lands right at the knee. Both pieces are made from 100% cotton, fully lined and make for a fun, flirty and feminine look. recently announced the collab here!

Curious about Kenley?

Born and raised in Pompano Beach, FL, Kenley is the youngest daughter of a tugboat captain. She began her career in fashion at the age of 16, when she started buying vintage clothing and reconstructing them for herself and friends. After graduating from Florida State University with a marketing degree, Kenley found herself in New York City with a sales job for a clothing company. No longer than a week later, she was promoted to a design position where she was able to blossom in the industry.

Since then, she has developed her own line which has been sold in local boutiques and on her website, She also has taught several pattern making, sewing, and accessory classes in the Garment District, and in her spare time, sings in the band, Jetblack Bullseye.

Kenley started an international trend with her feather fascinators after appearing on Bravo’s Project Runway in 2008. She has also appeared on E!’s Oscar 2011 pre-show, Live with Regis and Kelly, The Biography channel, and Project Runway All Stars on Lifetime.

This, straight from the designer’s mouth:  “I was so excited to do an exclusive design for Unique Vintage! I love the classic Americana style clothes they offer, along with great quality! I was inspired to design an updated, wearable take on the 1940′s matching two-piece set often worn on the “Vargas” pin up girl.”

Itching to get your paws on one of these gorgeous sets? The Kenley Collins for Unique Vintage crop top and skirt will be available May 1, 2013 on in sizes XS-XL for $138. You can pre-order your’s here!
