Ever since we first came across retro fashion designer Kenley Collins when she made her reality television debut on Project Runway back in 2008, we knew we had to work with this quirky, colorful chic. There are few contestants from all the seasons of Project Runway that truly left any lasting impression on audiences and Kenley is definitely one of them. Thankfully, the feelings were mutual!
With her cute, sassy attitude and definitive fashion aesthetic, Kenley came to UV’s HQ last September to collaborate on an exclusive design just for us! The Brooklyn, NY native just happened to be in LA for the Emmys (if you’re a fan of the show, you’ll remember when Ven won the Emmy dress challenge with Kenley and they both got to attend the award ceremony? It was right around then).
In TLC’s newest creation, “Wives With Beeshives,” the 1950s Vintage Inspired Dresses are almost a character themselves! The channel normally known for the exploitation of both Compulsive Hoarders and Child Beauty Pageant Contestants, now takes a look at a sect of culture we happen to be fairly familiar with. From the haircurlers to the Tom Collins waiting for your husband when he walks in the door, the 1950’s are often fetishized in various degrees- with these ladies taking it to a mid-century extreme.
