Esther Williams is the epitome of a UV Icon: glamorous, talented, intelligent, and athletic. Known worldwide as the Million Dollar Mermaid, she starred in a series of splashy aqua musicals throughout the 1940s and 50s and brought international attention to the sport of water ballet. “When I first started swimming, not many girls participated in the sport. They either didn’t want to get their hair wet or wanted to go out on Friday nights instead of going to a meet.
