1930's Fashion History

A Brief History of the 1930’s

hat1930's ICON JEAN HARLOW

n 1929, Jean Patou and Coco Chanel bring the waistline back to its natural position in their autumn collections, which sets the fashion tone for the 1930’s. Fabrics are cut on the bias for figure hugging dresses with flowing full skirts to the ground. Hemlines, again fell, to mid-calf and evening gowns became floor length. Open or interesting backs were common. The look was clean and lean, with an alluring silhouette, essentially flattering to the figure. Evening dresses were often made of fine fabrics: tissue taffeta, silk chiffon, crepe, satin and silk velvet.. Prints were the rage in the 30’s and revival-style designs emereged including grecian and medieval romantic styles. Overall, a much softer, feminine look emerged. square Sizing Notes

SIZING

Because sizing varies, our vintage evening dresses and other clothing is measured by inches, rather than the standard sizes used by modern vintage inspired dress. The best way to ensure a bridesmaid dress or other item will fit is to get your measurements

MEASURING INSTRUCTIONS

Bust: Measure around the fullest part of the bust and back.
Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of the waist.
Hips: Measure around the fullest part of the hips.
Length: Measure from the top of your shoulder.

REMEMBER

We have measured the flapper or swing dress, not your body. One option is to measure a similar dress at home. If the measurements match, the item will probably fit.
